Ken began his sales career in a retail clothing store as a teenager not old enough to get his driver’s license. At nineteen he was recruited to save a failing retail store. After rescuing it from crushing debt, he bought the store and opened a second.

Triumph turned to tragedy when a fire destroyed one location and unpaid taxes from the previous owner were assessed to him. Starting from less than zero, Ken relied on the sales skills he had developed in retail to start a new career in the hearth business. Quickly rising through the ranks, he became a regional manager and then national sales manager for companies including Carolina Stove, Buck Stove, and Appalachian Stove.

After managing successful sales teams for others, Ken yearned for a new challenge and wanted to build his own company. In January 2000 he opened a sales rep agency serving the hearth, patio and barbecue industries. In 2007 his company was recognized by Entrepreneur Magazine as one of the fastest growing private companies in the US.

Ken’s company was recruited to take over North American sales working with national brands including Coleman, KitchenAid, Beefeater and Swiss Grills. These experiences along with his designing of new products and promotions, branding, store design, recruiting, and sales management, make Ken supremely qualified to help in all aspects of hearth and patio retail and distribution.

Ken believes success comes with a responsibility to give back to the community — in this case the industry he is a part of. He has served in various positions on the board of both the Hearth, Patio & Barbeque Association and the Southeast Hearth, Patio & Barbeque Association. He has also served on local charities supporting education. And, he is also involved in consulting for manufacturers, distributors and retailers within the industry.

Early in his career Ken was introduced to Zig Ziglar at a business conference. As he listened to the immortal words of this true motivator, he found that the down-to-earth advice and positive message resonated with his own beliefs. The classic Ziglar advice,” … if you help enough others get what they want, they will help you get what you want…” has been his guiding principle for many years. Ken has referred to the Ziglar principles time and again to help grow his organizations and guide him through tough times in both his personal and business life. When the opportunity to become a certified Ziglar trainer became available, he leaped at the chance, knowing this was another way he could inspire others and help them reach their dreams.

Ken incorporates these ideas along with 35 years of hands-on experience to bring you real-world help in making your hearth retail business the vehicle that allows you to live your dreams.
